Update!

My apologizes for not keeping up with the blog. It seems that Bri and I have been so busy lately with work, families, friends, and gearing up for Christmas. I can't believe that Christmas is on Friday! This year has flown by! Bri and I are looking forward to a long weekend in Manhappy with friends and family. My sister is FINALLY moving home which I'm thrilled about. I will love having her so close and seeing her more often. I love that both of our families live in Manhattan, it makes the holidays so much easier.

Since the last time I blogged, I've got a new job. It's very time consuming, but totally worth it. I work at National American University and love every second of it. Who knew that I would go from the dental world to the education world. I commute to Kansas City everyday, which I thought would get old, but I actually don't mind it all. It gives me time to wind down from the work day and have some time for myself.

I'm sure I will have pictures to post after the long weekend in Manhappy! I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas with their families and friends!! Happy Holidays!

Manhappy

Bri, the hounds, and myself ventured to Manhappy for a long weekend. We had such a great time. Jessa, Grammy, and Gramps were all in town...it was like a mini family reunion. I was so happy to have everyone I loved in the same town. Grammy and Gramps hadn't been back to Manhattan since my wedding, and even then I didn't get to spend much time with them. So, I was pleased to spend all weekend with them.

Jessa and Scott brought their dog, Chip (aka Mr. Black Velvet) over to ride on four-wheelers and wear out all the hounds. It was a rockin' good time......

but, our fun was cut short because the green four-wheeler flooded, then I had to tow them back. Even then, we still were having a blast and loving every minute of it!

Saturday, we headed over to the stadium to tailgate with friends and family. Apparently our dog, Harvey wanted to join in on the fun and thought he would make a great driver...unfortunately, we had to leave all hounds at the Abbott Casa.

However, one item that did make it was The White Trash Margarita Maker (made by my genius father in law). This was the margarita maker's first appearance at a Wildcat tailgate and it was a hit! Let me just tell ya...it can make one hell of a margarita. So tasty!

Overall, the long weekend was great! Lots of family time, laughs, food, and fun! We love spending time with family and friends and even though we are Jayhawks, we still had a great time tailgating at the Wildcat Stadium!

Happy Birthday B!

Happy Birthday to my amazing hubby! Brian is 37 today, but nowhere near grown up. I like to think I keep him young, but the truth is he's just young at heart. I threw a birthday bash for Brian on Friday night at our casa, it was a rockin' good time. We had food, tons of cocktails, and lots of friends and family to celebrate B's birthday! It was perfect!

I also had this amazing cake made by Helen's Cakes and Cookies. She does such an amazing job. I would highly recommend her for any occasion. Not only did the cake look good, but it tasted just as good! Here are some pics from the party!

Happy Birthday B! I love you! xoxo

Life is so precious

I'm sad to say that my friend, Kara Louise Morgan died today. She was in a head-on collision on K10 and the 20 yr old in other car was killed too. So sad. Its been a long time since someone died that was dear to me. I can't believe she's gone. I just had a voicemail from her yesterday wanting to have lunch and now she's gone. Wow. It just really makes you remember how precious life is and in 1 second it can all be taken away. I will forever miss her and my heart goes out to her family. I just want to wake up tomorrow and it be a dream. I'm just waiting for someone to say it was a different Kara Morgan...not our Kara. So unfair. RIP Kara Louise Morgan! I love you and you will forever be missed!

A Night to Remember

Last night Stewy, Bri and I went over to the Barton's for some drinks and good conversation. We had no idea what the night was going to turn into. Bri and Stewy started to brag about their blue ribbons from the 3-legged race days at Marlatt. Jenny and I challenged them to a race to see if they still had it. So, we tied 2 of Eric's ties around our ankles and thats where it all started. Stewy and Bri cheated on the 1st race, the 2nd race Jenny and I dominated, but on the 3rd race Stewy and Bri defeated us.

Following the 3-legged race, we decided that wasn't enough. Why not bring back the sack race?!? So of course, the Barton's had 10 potato sacks laying around the house and then the race was ON! We had so much fun. Stewy won the 1st race, then Eric and Stewy tied the 2nd race. Following the Sack Race, we had a hula hoop contest. Julia (the Barton's 6 yr old daughter) dominated all of us. As a matter of fact, Bri lost 20 dollars to Julia in a hula hoop contest..ouch! Defeated by a 6 yr old! She made it look so easy!

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! It's great having such amazing friends that live so close. We always have so much fun going over to the Barton's house, sitting on the deck, and having good conversation. It's definitely one of my favorite things to do.

bbq

Jessa was home for more than 48 hrs, so we decided have a bbq with our friends and family. It was a great time. Brian and I cooked up quite the feast. We had baked beans, pulled pork, tortellini salad, mac & cheese, and desserts. All of it was so yummy!

It was so great having all of our friends together and especially for my sister join in on the fun. Our good friend, Mikie-dude brought over his homemade corn hole game, which was a big hit. It was a rockin' good time. I can't wait to have more bbq's when Jessa is a resident of Kansas again.

N'awlins!!

Brian and I went to New Orleans to visit our very good friends the Macneills. It was a great way to celebrate my 23rd birthday! Our first night we went to Jacquemos...which had the most amazing food ever. Following dinner, we went to a local bar and heard a brass band.

Thursday we went to the French Quarter and ate at Port of Call, which had deadly drinks called Monsoon's....but they were very delicious! After dinner we walked around the FQ and found Amac's favorite rock cover band...they were awesome.

Our last night, we went to the House Of Blues to watch Trombone Shorty perform (Which was the most amazing concert). Wynton Marsalis came out towards the end of the concert to perform with him. It was an incredible moment in Jazz History.

Overall, we had a fantastic trip (no illnesses or bad weather). We were bummed when we had to leave our good friends. New Orleans is a pretty incredible place. If you haven't been yet, I would HIGHLY recommend it!!! The vibe is pretty spectacular.

An Abbott Sunday

Most people know what an "Abbott Sunday" involves. But for those who don't, an "Abbott Sunday" consist on doing absolutely nothing..total relaxation day! We believe that leaving the house on a Sunday is just out of the question. haha. Every morning, Bri and the dogs usually get up before I do. They make their way to the living room usually to watch sports center on ESPN. Well, one this particular Sunday morning, I woke up, walked out to the living room to find all 3 hounds and Bri lounging on the couch! I had never seen all 3 dogs on the couch, because they usually aren't allowed on it. It was the cutest thing ever and instantly brought a smile to my face. What a great way to wake up!!

I can't believe it! It has been exactly 5 months from our wedding day. Time has gone by so fast! It feels like yesterday we were celebrating at MCC. I came home from a long day at work to notice Brian had picked up dinner from our favorite restaurant and got me the sweetest card! It was so thoughtful. It has been the best 5 months and everyday he still makes me smile and laugh!! I'm so blessed to have Brian as my husband and best friend.

Time for an Update

Well, its been a couple months since I have wrote on here. Things have been kinda crazy the last couple months. We headed to Manhappy for Christmas, it was a great xmas! We spent time with the Baxter and Abbott family. My parents just moved back to Manhattan, so it was nice having both families in one town. I love the fact that they are back in Manhappy.

After Christmas, we headed to Arizona for the Insight Bowl and New Years! Stewy was nice enough to let everyone crash at his house! That was a great trip! A lot of our friends from Lawrence were down for the game too, it was nice to celebrate the new year with all of them. There wasn't a dull moment, but it was so much fun! We loved having a break from the cold weather.
While in Arizona, Stewy, Sharon, Bri and I went to a Cardinals football game! That was a great experience. It was soo loud in that stadium and fun to see a great game! Plus the Cardinals won! Even better!

After Arizona, Brian and I headed to Manhattan to stay with Ian and the dogs while Tom and Ruth were in sunny Mexico!! It was great to relax for a long weekend. Brian took the dogs for a run every day on the 4-wheeler. They were so exhausted! I don't think they moved for 3 days following that trip. I started reading the Twilight series while we were in Manhappy. Oh my, am i hooked! They are great books. I just finished the 3rd one this week and can't wait to start the final book. I highly recommend reading the series!!

So that about sums up the last 2 months for us. We have been busy, but loved seeing family and enjoyed the warm weather. Can't wait to see what 2009 brings for the Abbott family..Stay tuned!!
